Tweenbot

Jacob Braude brought this great idea - called Tweenbot - to my attention.

The concept, which came from NYU's Tisch ITP, made me think of a post I wrote a while back. In it, I argue that planners/strategists can learn more about the world if they choose to think and do like artists. I can't help but believe that a planner can generate more and more useful learnings about people if they used their downtime to do projects like Tweenbot (as opposed to traditional research projects like implementing large scale surveys and analyses of consumer groups.)

People love easy wins. That's my (second-hand) learning from the Tweenbot project.

It only takes a little effort to give the bot a push in the right direction but the payoff is enormous.

In daily life, we have so few opportunities to just 'be of help' for the sheer pleasure of it.

Step 1. Find a task that people can easily help with.

Step 2. Ask for help.

Step 3 (Extra-credit). Be cute whilst asking for it.

I surprised there isn't more footage on the web that bystanders had taken to document the progress of the bot all the way to its end destination.

I know I wouldn't be able to walk away without knowing the little fella would arrive there safely.
